Blandia is sort of a pseudo-sequel to Taito's 1986 side scroller, Gladiator (aka Ougon no Siro [Castle of Gold] in Japan, and apparently "Great Gurianos" in some territories).

Gurianos was the hero of that game, and Blandia's locational armor-breaking system is lifted directly from it.

It's unknown what connection Allumer has with Taito, however.
